Calzone is a calorie deficit calculator and food journal for iPhone. It works out how many calories to eat each day for your weight goal, then helps you log what you eat.
Tell us what you see and what you were trying to do. A screenshot helps. In the app, Settings › Contact us starts the email for you.
Calzone used to be Fuel
Fuel is called Calzone from version 1.3, with a new icon and new colors. It's the same app: update it from the App Store, and your account, journal, foods and recipes are all still there.
Getting started
- Tap Get Started and create your account with Apple, Google or an email address. If you already have one, tap Already have an account? Sign in.
- Tell Calzone about yourself: your name, date of birth, height, weight, sex and activity level. It uses them to work out your daily calorie target.
- Set your weight goal: tap the gear at the top right of your journal to open Settings, then Goals.
- Log what you eat: tap +, or Add entry under Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snacks.
How Calzone works out your daily target
Calzone works out your BMR, the energy your body uses at rest, from your height, weight, age and sex, with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. It multiplies that by your activity level to get your TDEE, the energy you use in a typical day. Then it adds your weight goal: losing 1 lb a week takes 500 calories a day off your target, and 2 lb a week takes off 1,000. In kilograms, 0.5 kg a week is 550 calories a day and 1 kg is 1,100. Gaining weight adds the same amounts, and maintaining adds nothing.
If your weight or activity changes, update them in Settings › Profile, and your target follows.
With Calzone Plus, you can base your target on something other than your profile, in Settings › Energy Expenditure:
- Apple Health uses the active and resting energy your iPhone and Apple Watch record. Calzone reads them when you allow it, and never writes to Apple Health.
- Manual lets you enter your own daily calorie burn.
These targets are estimates, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before you make big changes to what you eat.
Logging food
Tap + to open New Entry. From there:
- Search the food database, built on USDA FoodData Central. Type at least three letters.
- Scan a package: tap the barcode button in the search bar. Calzone checks your own foods first, then the food database. If it can't find the barcode, it switches to scanning the Nutrition Facts panel, which it reads right on your iPhone.
- Add a food yourself: tap Add, then Add Food. Scan Nutrition Facts fills it in from the label. Check the numbers before you save.
- Build a recipe: tap Add, then Add Recipe, add its ingredients, and log it by the serving.
The foods and recipes you add are kept in Your Food Library on the same screen, ready for next time.
The scanner or Apple Health isn't working
- Camera: if the scanner shows nothing, open Settings on your iPhone, tap Apps, then Calzone, and turn on Camera.
- Apple Health: if your target isn't using your Apple Health energy, open Settings on your iPhone, tap Privacy & Security, then Health, then Calzone, and turn on Active Energy and Resting Energy. Apple Health is a Calzone Plus feature, and you choose it in Settings › Energy Expenditure in Calzone.
Signing in
- Use the same method as before. If you signed up with Apple or Google, sign in with Apple or Google again, rather than with an email and password.
- Forgot your password? On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password?, enter your account's email address and tap Reset my password. We'll email you a link to choose a new one.
- Want a password too? If you signed up with Apple or Google, you can add one in Settings › Account. The email address you enter there becomes your account's email address.
Calzone Plus
Setting a weight goal, getting your daily calorie target and logging food are free. Calzone Plus is a subscription that adds custom nutrient goals for protein, carbs, fat, fiber and more, in grams or as a percent of calories, and the Apple Health and Manual ways of working out your daily energy. Subscribe from Settings › Upgrade to Calzone Plus.
- On a new iPhone: Calzone Plus goes with your Calzone account. Sign in to the same account and you have it there too.
- To cancel: tap Manage Subscription in Calzone's settings, or open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You keep Calzone Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
- For a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple handles refunds.
Deleting your account
Open Settings, tap Account, then Delete Account, and confirm with Delete. If Calzone asks you to sign in again first, which it does when you last signed in a while ago, sign in, close the sign-in screen, and tap Delete Account again.
Your account and everything Calzone stores with it are deleted, as the privacy policy explains, and can't be recovered. If you have Calzone Plus, cancel it too: deleting your account doesn't stop the subscription.
Privacy
Calzone has no ads, and we don't sell your information. Read the privacy policy for what Calzone keeps and sends, and who helps it do that.
